The Art of the Violin
Exploring Technique, Interpretation and Musical Freedom
Directed by Benjamin Nabarro
About the course
Take your violin playing further with Benjamin Nabarro in a course devoted to the art of performance, interpretation and technical freedom. Working with repertoire of your own choice, you will explore how fresh approaches to technique, preparation and musical thinking can transform the way you play. Whether you are refining a challenging passage, developing a richer and more expressive sound or exploring the interpretative possibilities of a favourite work, Benjamin will offer practical, individual guidance to help you realise your musical ambitions. The emphasis is on discovering solutions, developing confidence and finding greater freedom and enjoyment in your playing.
Who is it for?
For advanced violinists, including experienced amateurs, music students and emerging professionals, who would like to develop specific aspects of their playing in depth. Participants should be comfortable preparing music independently and keen to explore both technical and interpretative questions.
What to expect
Sessions will combine individual coaching with opportunities to learn through listening and discussion. Working with repertoire brought by participants, Benjamin will explore areas such as sound production, bowing, intonation, phrasing, stylistic understanding and effective practice. There will be opportunities to address particular technical challenges, explore interpretative choices and develop approaches to performance preparation. Please bring music you are currently working on, together with any musical or technical questions you would like to investigate.
