About the course
Join tenor James Gilchrist for a welcoming and supportive course devoted to the art of song. Through individual coaching and shared musical exploration, participants will have the opportunity to improve their vocal technique, refine their performance skills and develop a deeper understanding of the music they sing. Working with repertoire chosen by participants, James will offer personalised guidance on interpretation, phrasing and musical expression, helping singers discover new possibilities in familiar works and approach their singing with greater confidence.
Who is it for?
This course welcomes singers of all abilities, from those developing their vocal skills to experienced performers looking for fresh insight and guidance. No audition is required. Participants should bring songs they would like to work on, chosen to suit their own experience, interests and aspirations. The emphasis is on learning and exploring in a warm, encouraging environment.
What to expect
Sessions will take the form of supportive masterclasses in which participants sing prepared repertoire and receive individual feedback from James. Work may include vocal technique, breath control, diction, phrasing, interpretation and communicating the meaning of a song. Listening to fellow participants is an important part of the course, offering new perspectives on repertoire and performance. There will be time for questions and discussion, and opportunities to put suggestions into practice, building musical assurance and enjoyment.
