About the course
Enjoy the distinctive sound of saxophones playing together in this engaging and sociable ensemble course led by Huw Wiggin. The group will explore a varied programme, from classical favourites and film music to jazz, contemporary works and lighter arrangements. The emphasis is on the pleasure of collaborative music-making, developing ensemble confidence and working towards sharing the music in performance.
Who is it for?
Suitable for saxophonists playing at approximately Grade 5 standard or above, who are comfortable reading music and have some experience of playing with others. No formal qualifications are required, but participants should enjoy group music-making and be willing to develop their ensemble and listening skills.
What to expect
Sessions will centre on full ensemble rehearsals, with Huw playing alongside the group and offering ensemble tuition. Participants will develop listening, rhythmic precision, balance, phrasing and musical communication, learning how individual parts contribute to the overall sound. Repertoire will be chosen to suit the group. The course will work towards an informal performance in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere.
