Piano with Tim Horton
Technique, Interpretation and Musical Expression
Directed by Tim Horton
About the course
Explore the expressive possibilities of the piano in this welcoming course directed by pianist Tim Horton. Through individual guidance and shared musical discovery, participants will develop their playing, deepen their understanding of the music they love and discover fresh approaches to technique and interpretation. The course offers time to focus on the details that make a performance convincing, from shaping a phrase to communicating a musical idea with confidence.
Who is it for?
This Open Access course welcomes pianists of all abilities and backgrounds, from developing players to experienced performers. Participants are encouraged to bring music they are currently working on, together with any technical challenges or interpretative questions they would like to explore. An interest in learning, listening and sharing ideas is all that is needed.
What to expect
Sessions will offer practical coaching on repertoire chosen by participants, exploring tone, touch, articulation, pedalling, rhythm, phrasing and musical character as appropriate to each player. There will be opportunities to learn by listening to others, discuss approaches to effective practice and gain constructive, personalised feedback. The repertoire and emphasis of the class will be shaped by the interests and needs of those taking part; no particular theme or set works are prescribed.
