Exploring Rhythm, Technique and Contemporary Sound
Directed by Ensemble Bash
About the course
Explore the remarkable range and expressive possibilities of percussion with Ensemble Bash. Drawing on over 30 years at the forefront of percussion ensemble playing worldwide, this lively daily workshop brings together drummers, orchestral percussionists, marimba and vibraphone players to discover stimulating ensemble repertoire. From the imaginative sound worlds of John Cage to the rhythmic ingenuity of Steve Reich and contemporary British composers, the course offers a rewarding chance to expand your skills, discover new techniques and enjoy making music with fellow percussionists and drummers.
Who is it for?
This course welcomes adult percussionists with experience at any level, from enthusiastic amateurs to professional players. A working knowledge of reading musical notation is expected. Curiosity, commitment and a willingness to explore unfamiliar music are just as important as technical experience.
What to expect
Daily rehearsals will develop ensemble awareness, rhythmic coordination, listening and musical interpretation. Ensemble Bash will introduce practical techniques and guide participants through repertoire selected to suit the group, with opportunities to explore different instruments, textures and approaches to sound. Learn from one another in a supportive, inspiring class while building confidence and musicianship through shared performance.
