Chamber Music
Co-ordinated by Rhiannon Evans
About the course
Enjoy making music with others in this flexible course, offering opportunities to explore chamber repertoire in small ensembles. Co-ordinated by Rhiannon Evans, the course runs across all four daily sessions, so participants may choose one or several sessions to suit their interests. Independent rehearsals sit alongside expert coaching from The Brook Street Band and Claire Williams, with repertoire ranging from Baroque music at A=415 to works at modern pitch.
Who is it for?
This Open Level course welcomes instrumentalists of all levels, from experienced chamber musicians to those exploring ensemble playing for the first time. No previous chamber music experience is required, although participants should be able to prepare and play their own parts. Both individuals and established groups are welcome. Ensembles are arranged in advance, taking account of instrumentation, musical experience and repertoire preferences wherever possible.
What to expect
Session 1 offers self-guided ensemble rehearsal without formal coaching. In Session 2, The Brook Street Band coaches Baroque groups playing at A=415; in Session 3, the Band coaches groups exploring any repertoire at any pitch. Session 4 offers coaching with Claire Williams, again for repertoire at any pitch. Rhiannon will co-ordinate groups and suggest suitable music where needed. Participants will receive their group allocations and repertoire details before arrival, allowing time to prepare and contact fellow players. An informal end-of-week sharing offers an opportunity to celebrate the music explored together.
