Celtic Echoes – Traditional Voices Reimagined
Directed by The Hepburn Four
About the course
Led by The Hepburn Four, Celtic Echoes explores vocal music rooted in the traditions of Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall and Wales. From traditional folksongs to contemporary choral works influenced by Celtic musical heritage, this course celebrates the richness and continuing life of sung oral traditions. Through music and storytelling, participants will discover how these traditions connect past and present, while developing their vocal confidence, musicianship and ensemble skills.
Who is it for?
This course is designed for amateur singers with some previous choral experience, particularly those at developing or intermediate level. An ability to read music is helpful but not essential, as vocal lines will also be taught by ear. Singers with an interest in folk traditions, storytelling and collaborative music-making are warmly welcomed.
What to expect
Across the week, The Hepburn Four will guide participants through a varied selection of repertoire, exploring how stories are communicated through ensemble singing and how Celtic traditions continue to inspire contemporary choral music. Sessions will combine singing with vocal warm-ups and musicianship games, while encouraging trust, listening and collaboration within the group. No preparation is required, although music may be made available in advance on request. The course will culminate in an informal sharing of repertoire at the end of the week.
