An Experimental Music Lab
Exploring Sound, Imagination and Musical Possibilities
Directed by Ensemble Bash
About the course
What happens when music becomes an invitation to experiment, explore and think differently? Join Ensemble Bash for a playful journey into experimental music from the USA and UK, drawing on composers including John Cage, Peter Garland, Hugh Shrapnel and John White. Combining beauty, humour and unexpected discoveries, this music invites performers to bring their own imagination and judgement to the creative process. Through accessible notation, text scores and collaborative music-making, discover fresh ways of listening, creating and performing.
Who is it for?
This Open Level course welcomes instrumentalists, singers, composers and anyone musical who is curious about experimenting. No previous experience of experimental music is needed. Enthusiasm, an open mind and a willingness to explore ideas together matter far more than advanced technical skills.
What to expect
Sessions will explore text scores and approachable forms of notation through practical group activities, discussion and shared performance. Participants will experiment with sound, silence, texture, timing and musical choices, discovering how different interpretations can transform a piece. The emphasis is on intelligent, enquiring participation, collaborative discovery and the pleasure of making something unexpected together.
