Tom Carr

Thomas is a collaborative pianist and teacher based in Norfolk, UK. He is a graduate of St Hilda’s College, Oxford, where he studied an academic music degree specialising in composition under Professor Martyn Harry. He now works full time as Head of Instrumental Studies and Teacher of Music at Gresham’s School. Here he has musical-directed productions of Phantom of the Opera, Little Shop of Horrors, Amelie and We Will Rock You. As a collaborative pianist, recent performances have included Schubert’s Winterreise at Holkham Hall, Grieg’s Haugtussa at Bury St Edmunds Cathedral, and Schumann’s Dichterliebe at St Mary-le-Tower. As a soloist, he has given regular recitals, including a complete performance of Alexander Scriabin’s 24 Preludes at the Jacqueline du Pre Music Hall, and of Poul Ruders’ Dante Sonata at Christ Church Cathedral. Thomas has worked as répétiteur and assistant conductor on operas such as Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, and Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Steve Reich’s The Cave and several premieres. Thomas is a prolific composer and was the recipient of the Royal Academy’s Gareth Walters Prize in 2017. In recent years his works have been performed at Westminster Abbey, Tate Modern, and the Royal Albert Hall as well as in various venues across Oxford, Cambridge and Norfolk.
