Rebecca Askew
Rebecca Askew is a versatile singer, composer, arranger, musical director and vocal coach whose work embraces jazz, theatre, choral music and creative collaboration.
A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Rebecca’s first musical love is jazz, with early influences including Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Carmen McRae. She has performed extensively in the UK and internationally, appearing at venues including Shakespeare’s Globe, the National Theatre and jazz clubs across the country. As a composer and bandleader, she has toured her own music to festivals and venues including the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Theatre.
Alongside her performing career, Rebecca is an experienced educator and choral director, working with singers of all ages and abilities. She has been a vocal tutor at Farlington School since 2012 and has worked with organisations including Glyndebourne Education, English National Opera, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Film and Television School.
Rebecca is also co-director of Hidden Gems, which creates imaginative, site-specific choral experiences in the UK and Europe. Her approach to teaching combines technical understanding with creativity, playfulness and an emphasis on helping singers develop confidence and discover their natural voices.
At MSSF, Rebecca brings her experience of vocal improvisation, ensemble singing and musical exploration to The Whispering Dome, encouraging participants to discover new expressive possibilities through collaboration, experimentation and the shared enjoyment of singing.
