Ian Rutherford

Ian has directed in the major Opera Houses of UK, Europe and North America. As Staff director at ENO and then Principal Staff Director at Glyndebourne Ian has directed the revivals of productions by many of the great directors including Sir Nicholas Hytner, David Alden, Sir David McVicar and Michael Grandage. Ian has taken many productions abroad including Billy Budd to BAM and San Francisco and Meistersingers to Chicago.

His own productions have been presented across the UK including La Traviata, Tosca and Matrimonio Segreto with Diva Opera. Cendrillon with the Royal Academy of Music and Madama Butterfly with Opera Holland Park.

Ian has directed Opera scenes with Guildhall, Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music as well as with Singing Salon in the Brighton Pavilion.

Ian is currently working at Glyndebourne and ENO and looks forward to reviving Turco in Italia this autumn and Billy Budd at Glyndebourne.
