Cantoría
Cantoría is a vocal group specialising in the interpretation of vocal polyphony from the Iberian Renaissance and early Baroque periods. Freshness, naturalness and a special connection with the audience have become distinctive features of the performances of this group, which is beginning to build a notable national and international career.
They have performed in more than 14 countries, bringing Renaissance music to the most important festivals throughout Europe. In 2024 they have been the resident ensemble of the Oude Muziek Utrecht Festival and have made their debut at the Laus Polyphoniae in Antwerp and the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam . In addition, they have carried out their first tour in the USA and have been a resident ensemble at the Ambronay Festival . It is worth highlighting their participation this year at the All’Improvviso Festival in Gliwice (Poland), the Brighton Early Music Festival and Castell de Peralada.
Throughout their career, Cantoría has participated in special programs for radio stations such as BBC, France Musique, Deutschlandfunk, SWR3, Radio Clásica, Catalunya Música and Nederlandse Publieke Omroep 2.
In 2022, they released their first CD at the Ambronay Cultural Center (France), dedicated to Mateo Flecha’s Ensaladas , which garnered important awards such as the “Diapason Découverte” label, the “Melómano de Oro” award and the “Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik”. That same year, they presented their innovative show “Lenguas Malas”, a proposal that explores satire and language through Spanish Renaissance music.
Founded in 2016 within the framework of the ECOS International Festival of Early Music of Sierra Espuña (Murcia) and emerging from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya-ESMUC (Barcelona), Cantoría has stood out for the freshness, youth and closeness of its interpretations. In 2018, they were selected for the EEEmerging+ program, where they won the Audience Prize at the Ambronay Festival and continued as part of the project for three more years (2018-2021).
In addition to their participation in the main early music festivals, they have performed at prestigious institutions such as the Museo del Prado, the National Library of Spain and the Library of Catalonia.
In 2024, Cantoría has begun a new stage, expanding both its repertoire and the number of singers, which has meant a significant evolution in its sound and ambitions. For the first time, they have developed programs for more singers and a chamber orchestra, a challenge enthusiastically embraced by audiences and critics. This new format allows Cantoría to explore other compositions and bring out its most versatile side
.
In addition to its director, Jorge Losana, accompanied by soprano Inés Alonso and alto Oriol Guimerà, Cantoría is joined on this new adventure by collaborating musicians such as Marc de la Linde (viola da gamba), Pablo FitzGerald (vihuela), Marina López (organ), Joan Seguí (organ), Jeremy Nastasi (theorbo), Victoria Cassano (soprano), Rita Morais (soprano), Belén Herrero (mezzo-soprano), Lluís Arratia (baritone), and Martí Doñate (tenor), among others.
