Roger Argente

Born in Neath, South Wales, Roger studied the Bass Trombone at the RNCM, where he was a joined recipient of the prestigious Concerto Prize.

He joined the BSO in 1986 before moving to the RPO in 1992, leaving in 2018 to take up the position as Head of Brass at the Royal Welsh College of Music.

With the RPO, Roger toured the world performing at the most prestigious concert halls and festivals with the finest conductors and soloists for over 27 years.

As a session musician, recorded film score’s for Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, John Barry, Danny Elfman and Michael Giacchino on big screen classics such as Gladiator, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Batman, the 007 franchise and Captain Underpants.

In 2001 started BONELAB as a response to the declining number of school children learning to play the trombone. Collaborating with music festivals, conservatoires, education agencies and leading orchestras, as well as consecutive residencies at the Dartington International Summer School.

In 2005 started Superbrass, working alongside Youth Music, The BBC Proms, the Southbank Centre and music centre’s, colleges, schools and brass bands. The debut CD “Under the Spell of Spain” received rave reviews – “enigmatic pulse-pumping musical essences that will make you want to jump for joy, weep your heart out or dance until dawn” – and in 2008 were nominated for the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society’s Education Award for its work at the 2007 BBC Proms Brass Day.

Superbrass Music specializes in publishing brass and wind ensemble repertoire as well as educational resources. Now with more than 1,200 titles, it is exclusively owned and edited by Roger Argente (www.superbrass.co.uk)

Roger is a (past) President of the British Trombone Society and a recipient of the International Trombones Society’s Presidents Award.

Now living in Central Cardiff, Roger particularly enjoys being finally able to walk to work; is a season ticket holder for Cardiff rugby and enjoys cooking, red wines from Spain and walking his 2 Labradors – Archie & Evie
